After the show at our first school in Tokyo, we endeavoured to test our new set of wheels, and embarked on our first accommodation move to Matsumoto in Nagano Prefecture. A four and a half hour drive into the heart of the Japanese Alps. Luckily, the new van is in much better condition then our German van was (RIP SOHO, may you rest in peace in the big scrap heap in the sky) and the drive went very smoothly. We seem to be gradually adapting to our Japanese speaking tom-tom too (and learning to ignore the American one!)
Normally on long drives in Germany, the best you can really expect from service stations in Germany is some senf, a hot dog sausage and a day old brotchen (possibly even a short bout of food poisoning, if you happen to stop off between Leipzig and Dusseldorf...) Japanese services are, thankfully, a lot more similar to their English counterparts, although of course with a few Japanese twists....
Such as, a robot to greet you when you enter
And the exercise area for drivers!
And of course, the view!
